What is the NEKCAN?

We are a newly formed non-profit in Vermont, the Northeast Kingdom Cancer Action Network, Inc., but you can call us NEKCAN for short. Our mission is to raise funds to provide grants to those in the Northeast Kingdom fighting cancer. Our grant program provides direct financial support to our neighbors like you to help alleviate some of the financial pressures you might be facing while also letting you know that you are not alone and that we are here to support you.

What’s Next?

One of the NEKCAN Board of Directors will reach out to you, via the telephone number that you provided, to verify your information. You can expect to get that call within a few days of submitting your application.

When are grants applications approved?

We approve grant applications at our monthly board meetings, which usually happen the third week of each month. Once grants are approved we usually send out the first check within a few business days.

How will I know if my grant application was approved?

After the board meeting we will send out an e-mail letting you know that you have been approved and we will also follow up with a phone call.

How much will the grant be for?

We cannot guarantee a specific amount but we do our best to provide meaningful support over a period of several months. More more information about our grant distribution policy, click here

If your grant is approved you will receive a letter with the first check explaining the value and duration of the grant.
